#8: Driving Miss Daisy (1990)
Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by the same name, Driving Miss Daisy has long been criticized for its portrayal of race relations. Black chauffeur Hoke is hired to drive the elderly Daisy around after she gets into an accident and cannot drive herself anymore. Because of the dynamics between Daisy and Hoke, the film is seen as a backward step toward perpetuating both a white savior and a happy slave/subservience narrative.
