#10: Mr. Mom (1983)
Another 1980s comedy film that is very of its time, Mr. Mom, highlights Jack, who is let go from his job and becomes a stay-at-home father. But, instead of calling him a stay-at-home dad, the movie relies on old, sexist tropes for its comedy. The name itself implies that the role of household caretaker is the mom and gives credence to why Jack is so terrible at housework/childcare — because he’s a man. With nearly 20% of stay-at-home parents being dads, this infantilizing film about weaponized incompetence doesn’t stick anymore.
