Sometimes, movies break huge barriers and tell new stories. Other times, there are movies so unconventional that their appeal wears off quickly. If you want to see what we mean, we’re here today with a list of 20 movies that are so out there, they could’ve never been made today. Yet, they remain products of their time. Even if they wouldn’t be made today, these movies were groundbreaking at the time of their release, and some are still quite beloved.
#1: Blazing Saddles (1974)
Even though this movie dates back to the 70s, there’s been a lot of lively debate over Blazing Saddles online in the past few years. The Mel Brooks Western spoof about a Black sheriff named Bart who is saddled with watching over the less-than-accepting town of Rock Ridge. One big reason this film wouldn’t work today is that it uses the N-slur over 30 times. Sure, we could probably remake Blazing Saddles for a modern audience, but the script would definitely need work to be more palatable.
