#7: Inception (2010) vs. Ascending and Descending (1960) by M.C. Escher
Christopher Nolan loves to play with logic, so it’s no surprise he found a kindred spirit in M.C. Escher. In Inception, Nolan brought the artist’s impossible drawings to life. During a dream-training sequence, the character Arthur demonstrates a paradox by walking up a flight of stairs that circles back on itself, ending right where it began. This “Penrose step” sequence is a physical realization of Escher’s lithograph Ascending and Descending.
