#5: Shutter Island (2010) vs. The Kiss (1907–1908) by Gustav Klimt
Martin Scorsese recreated one of art’s most famous embraces for a moment of tragedy in Shutter Island. In a flashback, Teddy Daniels (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) holds his late wife (played by Michelle Williams). The position of their embrace, the way he cradles her head, and her patterned dress are a direct reference to Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss.
