In December 2004, a major earthquake of catastrophic magnitude – the most powerful earthquake recorded in Asia – struck the west coast of Indonesia, followed by a massive tsunami. Worldwide, around two billion people tuned in to the TV to follow the news coverage of the devastating tsunami, which affected 14 countries and took the lives of over 200,000 people.
