#12: Flight to the Moon Took Only 66 Years
A person born when the Wright brothers first flew could have watched the Moon landing on television in old age. That is the part that feels almost impossible. In December 1903, the first powered, controlled flight lasted only 12 seconds and covered 120 feet. By July 1969, Apollo 11 had carried Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins to the Moon. Not quite 66 years separated the fragile aircraft at Kitty Hawk from human footprints on another world. It was not a smooth miracle, of course.
