#14: Lakehurst Mall (Illinois)

Opened in 1971 in Waukegan, Lakehurst was the shopping anchor for Chicago’s far suburbs. When Gurnee Mills opened nearby, foot traffic vanished. The mall closed in 2001 and was demolished, leaving behind only memories — and a generation’s first jobs.
