We have all encountered this at one time or another; the boss who likes to take the coward’s way out and leaves you a post-it note so passive-aggressive it makes you want to scream. Or maybe sometimes they just don’t know how to make an appropriate joke? Let’s look at some examples and what NOT to do as a boss. Don’t get me wrong sometimes they like to do dark jokes to their staff and will not stop for anything but you get the ones that are just plain dumb and will speak their minds in ways that are not your usual ways and if they had human resources in place they would be in big trouble with the law.
The Joke Is On You
It’s not always funny when you make a joke about someone leaving a company. Maybe you want to make light of an unhappy situation by adding a bit of humor to the employee’s last day, or think your humor matches up with theirs. This is something you might want to double check before you go and put it on their goodbye present.
This boss might have had the completely wrong idea when it came to joking about someone leaving their job. This is the type of humor not everyone understands, as it can be a little bit too far. Saying you hope someone fails is a bit too much negative juju you’re putting into their future. If they end up losing a limb, they’ll say it’s your fault.
