Born Joan Barrett in St. Albans, New York, Joan Vohs began her professional career at 16 as a Radio City Rockette and a Conover model. After a talent scout discovered her on Broadway, she moved to Hollywood, where she initially faced typecasting in “dumb blonde” roles. Vohs later moved to Paramount Studios, broadening her range in films like the western Fort Ti (1953) and the thriller Terror at Midnight (1956). She eventually retired from acting in 1966 to focus on her family.
