Open house
I’m beginning to wonder if it would be a sensible idea to have some sort of DIY or maintenance skill requirement for landlords. Unless you’re happy to call the professionals to deal with any job, then surely you should have some basic property skills yourself. I keep seeing examples of people who have no idea what they’re doing.
Such as here, when a tenant needed the locks changing on their front door. The landlord obliged, coming to fix the locks himself. However, it’s clear that he wasn’t the locksmith he was trying to be. If you look closely, you can see that the lock has been fitted the wrong way around, meaning anyone can just wander in from the outside. Hardly secure.
