Well, in 1929, the Gray Harbor Lumber industry created an ad campaign featuring the “Spruce Girls.” Like many advertising and marketing campaigns, the campaign’s clear objective was to promote wood as a material. While cheap and easy to make, these “modern” bathing suits didn’t last long in fashion.
