When we look at our history books, they’re filled with all sorts of figures who are famous for all sorts of things they did, but most share one common attribute—the vast majority of them are men. Many influential women have contributed to our society in one way or another over the centuries, but their stories tend to be overlooked. So, we’re here today to fill you in on some of them.
#1: Claudette Colvin (b. 1939)
We’ve all heard of Rosa Parks, but nine months before she refused to give up her seat for a white passenger, Claudette Colvin (aged fifteen) was arrested for the same thing. It seems the only reason Colvin’s case wasn’t publicized is that she was pregnant at the time and not married.
