Hardly Anyone Says Please and Thank You
If you’re speaking to an Indian local and they don’t say please or thank you, don’t take offense to it. In Indian culture, they don’t use these “magic words” very often, but it’s not because they’re raised to be rude. That’s just how it is in India.
Instead of saying please and thank you, Indians will typically smile at you. “Can you tell me how to get to XYZ?” “Sure, it’s right over there.” 😊 This is something that many foreign travelers don’t get when they travel to India. Hotel employees are trained to express gratitude verbally, but outside on the streets, flashing your pearly whites is how you show your thanks.
