Buy Groceries and Cook for One Day
In the States, most of us do our weekly shopping on a single day. Then you head to the corner store because you forgot to pick up your favorite snack. Or maybe you order takeout because you’re too lazy to cook your own food, but we digress.
Indians, in general, don’t stockpile groceries for the week. Instead, they purchase ingredients that they’ll use for the day on that day. This tradition dates back to the pre-refrigerator days. Since you couldn’t store meats, fish, and vegetables without them spoiling within 24 hours, you’d cook everything you had the moment you bought them.
