Anna Tihaya is a blogger from Moscow but moved to India to live with her husband. For the last decade or so, Anna has been living in Puducherry, a former French Indian territory found in the southern part of the country. She created a blog titled Indian Wife, where she reveals to her readers an assortment of interesting nuggets of knowledge regarding how unique her new home country is. Take a look at what Anna has to say about living in India and adapting to new social customs.
Potatoes Are Never Eaten Alone
While eating potatoes alone sounds strange in our country (you don’t eat roast potatoes straight off the pan, do you?), India takes it a step further by serving potato-based dishes in an assortment of curries and sauces. Plus, a meal is never complete if you don’t have a heaping scoop of rice on your plate.
One, Anna cooked veggies and potatoes for her Indian husband, which he found completely strange. He asked her what else they were going to eat it with, and she was dumbfounded by the idea. It wasn’t too difficult for Anna to get accustomed to this new way of eating, but pairing carbs with more carbs doesn’t exactly sound like the best match, at least from a health standpoint.
