#8: Michael Johnson Achieves the Impossible
What makes the Olympics so inspiring? We think it has something to do with watching hard-working athletes achieve the near-impossible after years of dedication and sacrifice. Michael Johnson went down in history when he beat the odds in the 1996 Atlanta Games. Johnson set a new world record when he won the 200-meter and the 400-meter.
The thing was, most people thought this feat was impossible. He won the 400-meter dash and then, only a few days later, won the 200-meter. That had never been done by a sprinter in the Olympics before. On top of winning an unprecedented 200m-400m double, Johnson set new record times. He completed the 200-meter in 19.32 seconds, a record that went undefeated until Usain Bolt in 2008.
