Sugar Ray Leonard is one of the world’s most famous boxers. He’s so famous that most people forget that he was still an amateur boxer when he won the gold medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Canada. His amazing win eventually led to Leonard turning pro the next year.

Leonard tore through the Olympic competition and won the gold medal after defeating Cuban boxer Andres Aldama. The young 20-year-old planned to attend college at the University of Maryland after winning Olympic gold, but the ring kept calling to him. We don’t blame him.
