In the 1960s, it was like every young artist, musician, and writer was fighting for a piece of the spotlight. But among the crowds in the stadium and the cameras, there were a few select legends who did not enjoy their new-found world fame at all. For them, a quiet life, artistic integrity, and privacy were far more important than public adoration.

#1: Syd Barrett

Many of us remember the brilliant sounds of early Pink Floyd. The band’s founding leader, Syd Barrett, wrote psychedelic tracks like “Arnold Layne” (1967). Well, the heavy pressure of sudden fame and intense dr*g use got him some consequences on his mental health. By 1968, Barrett walked away from the music industry entirely. He spent the rest of his life living quietly in his hometown as a gardener, using his birth name, Roger.
