#65: Ghostbusters, New York
Directed and written by Dan Aykroyd, Ghostbusters is a hallmark of supernatural comedy inspired by Aykroyd’s deep interest in spirituality. Initially conceived as a time-travel adventure featuring Aykroyd and John Belushi battling demons, Belushi’s untimely demise transformed the film into a story about ghost fighters in present-day New York City.
Earning nearly $300 million at the box office, Ghostbusters became an instant classic upon its release. The production kicked off in New York City in October 1983, with Bill Murray being the first to show up on set. Despite concerns over his preparation (he had read the script), Murray’s performance would cement his status as a beloved figure in this iconic film.
