#8: Ivan IV “the Terrible” (1530 – 1584)
The nickname tells you everything you need to know about his home life. Ivan IV of Russia, born in 1530 and crowned the first Tsar of Russia in 1547, had at least seven wives, and being married to him was a very risky business. After his first wife, Anastasia Romanovna, passed away in 1560, he became increasingly paranoid and violent. Some of his later wives were forced into convents, while others died under suspicious circumstances. He had a short fuse and didn’t hesitate to remove a spouse if he felt she was in the way.
