#20: Emperor Caligula (12 – 41)

Caligula, born in 12 AD as Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus and ruling from 37 to 41 AD, went through four wives in a very short time, including Milonia Caesonia, his final spouse. He treated them more like property than partners, often taking other men’s wives to assert power, then discarding them just as quickly. His household ran on fear and unpredictability. He used marriage as a tool to humiliate Rome’s elite, until members of his own guard assassinated him in 41 AD.
