#18: George IV of the United Kingdom (1762 – 1830)

George IV of the United Kingdom was one of the most famous disasters in royal history. Born in 1762 and ruling from 1820 to 1830, married Caroline of Brunswick in 1795 to solve his mounting debts with Parliament’s help. He was so put off when they met that he reportedly spent their wedding night drunk and collapsed near the fireplace. They separated almost immediately and spent years attacking each other in the press. When he was crowned in 1821, he even had the doors of Westminster Abbey shut to keep her out.
