#12: Crossfader basics
It seems small now, just a horizontal slider on a mixer. But the crossfader changed the feeling of transition. Early DJs had to move carefully between turntables, balancing volume knobs and timing manually. With the crossfader, the shift from one track to the next could be smoother, more controlled. Instead of a hard stop and restart, music could glide. That smoothness mattered on packed dance floors. It preserved momentum. It allowed creativity to feel fluid rather than mechanical.
