Symbolism in Cinderella
You think balancing work, school, kids, or just life was difficult? Think again. Cinderella does not have it easy- and it’s actually a lot to take in for a kid’s movie. She is virtually enslaved by her step mother and step sisters. Imagine cooking and cleaning for your worst frenemy? No thanks.
Disney animators use symbolism to add to Cinderella’s plight. It’s not enough to see her scrubbing the floors and being lonely- the creators of this movie wanted to add some elements that would further tell your unconscious that this chick is in a bad place. As you can see in this frame, the windows cast a reflection on our heroine that makes you look like she’s in jail or trapped in a cage.
