49. True Grit (2010)
True Grit, written by Charles Portis, was published in 1968 and has since then become a novel many consider an American classic. It has been adapted to film twice, once in 1969 starring John Wayne, and the second time in 2010.
The first film opened to great success, with John Wayne winning an oscar for Best Actor. The remake which was released in 2010 was also a success and was nominated for ten academy awards, none of which it won. Still, it was praised by critics and audiences alike for its actors’ performances.
