44. The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)
The Perks of Being a Wallflower was published in 1999 by Stephen Chbosky. From the get-go, Chbosky had always wanted it to come to film, but it would not be fully realized until 2012. Film production started when he sold the rights Mr. Mudd Productions, on the condition that he got to write and direct the film.
After it was screened at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, it received a standing ovation. The film’s success boosted the sales of the novel, turning it into a bestseller that has since become a cult classic.
