35. Goodfellas (1990)
Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family is a book published by Nicholas Pileggi. It is a work of nonfiction that recalls the life of Henry Hill, a mafia associate who would later become an informant. It was released in 1985, chronicling Hill’s life from 1955 through 1980, up to when he was arrested.
It was adapted into film by Martin Scorsese, who, along with Pileggi, retitled it Goodfellas to avoid confusion with an unrelated TV show Wiseguy. The film premiered in 1990 at the 47th Venice International Film Festival. The actors had frequently called Hill to ask for advice on how to portray certain aspects of the characters. When questioned after the film’s release, Hill said he loved it.
