32. Hidden Figures (2016)
Hidden Figures is one of the novels-turned-films on this list that were works of non-fiction. It is based on the real events and lives of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, three mathematicians who worked for NASA in the 1930s through the 1960s during the Space Race.
It chronicles their contributions and tribulations that would lead to its success. The book and film were released in the same year, 2016, though the film was only loosely based on the book. Both the book and movie were released to critical acclaim, and, of course, the film also earned itself three academy awards.
