11. Gone with the Wind (1939)
Gone With the Wind has been a divisive film amongst some critics since its initial debut, especially as time passed. Howeverm when it was first released to screen, it was received positively and practically broke theaters with how many moviegoers were attending to see it.
The novel had been published just three years prior by Margaret Mitchell, to great success, and is still one of the most popular and well known books in America. In a 2014 poll, it was discovered to be the second favorite book amongst Americans.
