#8: Rembrandt’s only known seascape vanished in the Gardner heist
Rembrandt’s Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee was stolen from Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in 1990. Thieves cut the canvas from its frame, taking the artist’s seascape. Its storm scene and rarity make recovery difficult, but despite persistent theories about organized crime, the painting remains missing.
