48. L.A. Confidential (1997)

L.A. Confidential is a novel from the neo-noir genre and was published in 1990. It was the third novel in a four-part series. The title refers to a scandal exposé magazine called Confidential that ran from 1952 and ended publication in 1978.

A fictionalized version of the magazine exists in the novel itself under the name Hush-Hush. It was adapted to a film that was released in 1997 to universal acclaim and numerous awards. A sequel had been intended to be created for 2020 that would star Chadwick Boseman, but he passed away before shooting.
