15. All Quiet on the Western Front (1930)
The true anti-war film. All Quiet on the Western Front was based on a novel of the same name by German novelist Erich Maria Remarque. In both its forms, it is a harrowing, impactful story showing the effects of war on the soldiers caught in the middle of it.

Remarque, a World War I veteran, wrote the novel as a reflection of the experiences of him and other German soldiers in the WWI trenches. There have been three adaptions of the book to screen, but despite its age, the first one released in 1930 captures it perfectly.
