#5: Tonka Trucks
Built like miniature tanks, these metal trucks survived anything — mud, rocks, siblings, even being run over by actual cars. In the ’50s and ’60s, Tonka trucks were the gold standard for outdoor play. Kids hauled dirt, built imaginary construction sites, and rammed them repeatedly into whatever was available. They were heavy, durable, and guaranteed to leave at least one bruise per Christmas. Modern plastic trucks simply don’t compare.
