A flattened mosquito
The only place we like seeing mosquitoes is inside of 65-million-year-old balls of amber. Anywhere else and they’re not worth the trouble. Here, we can see a flattened mosquito on the inside of a roll of translucent tape. How did it get there, we wonder? And was it carrying any viruses at the time of its death?

While the odds of a mosquito getting squished to death in a roll of tape is tiny, there’s no mystery. A mosquito was minding its own business inside of a tape manufacturing plant when it strayed into the wrong place at the wrong time.
