Fake Tech Support
This is likely the biggest consumer scam people, especially seniors seem to be falling for lately. It starts off with an unsolicited call from someone claiming to be Windows or Microsoft tech support. They then tell you that your computer has viruses and in order to protect your information, you need to download a specific website or give them remote access to your computer.
Once you’ve done that, you may see a fake screen that shows viruses being eliminated but what’s really happening is that the scammer is installing malware to steal your data, usernames, and passwords. Remember, Microsoft will not make unsolicited phone calls, so if you get something similar, just hang up.
