Looking into someone’s eyes to get the truth
This is a neat trick that our parents used on us unconsciously. If you neither understand an answer nor aren’t sure whether someone is telling the truth, keep your mouth shut (hack #1) and look at them in the eye. The silence and indirect pressure on being put on the spot will compel that person to elaborate and eventually uncover any discrepancies.
Prolonged eye contact lets the other person know that you’re not fully satisfied with their answer. Your dissatisfaction can stem from confusion (needs further elaboration) or disbelief. This seemingly insignificant tactic helps you get a good idea of whether someone is lying.
