Marketing gimmick
Another vote for the world’s most ridiculous use of plastic and packaging space here. Again, marketing ideas need to be eye-catching and memorable, I understand that, but being memorable for all the wrong reasons isn’t going to win you many fans.
This particular web security company decided to highlight how brilliant they were for doing away with the installation disk, by sending an empty disc case instead. Am I the only one who thinks that this is just as cumbersome and pointless as sending a disc in the first place? Now their customers aren’t thinking about how great it is not to have to bother with a disc, they’re thinking how annoying it is having to dispose of an empty case.
