The Mental Workout When Preparing To Call Someone
Introverts have a lot of thoughts. Unlike extroverts, who often respond with the first thing that comes to mind, introverts think about their responses carefully. Phone calls do not give introverts the time they need to think about a problem before responding. As a result, one-on-one phone calls are particularly difficult. When an introvert receives a phone call, they expect a response almost immediately. When an introvert fails to deliver, the resulting silence between the two parties can be agonizing.
A counselor was holding a seminar for extroverts married to introverts. one of the most important takeaways from his seminar was a communication tip. He instructed the room’s extroverts to silently count to five after asking a question, allowing for complete silence between the parties. That was the bare minimum of time their introverted partners were required to plan and begin their response.
