Mochi is one of those things that either you will love, or you will hate; the squishy, gelatinous, glutinous rice can come across as very fun to eat or utterly disgusting. As someone who falls into the former camp, it breaks my heart to see this picture.

What’s even more baffling is that the smaller mochi seems to have been cut apart at some point because you can see the dark-colored filling inside. Come on, Japan, do better. You have bullet trains and robot waiters; surely you can make mochi properly.
