Vanilla Beans Take a While
Pineapples are not the only food that takes a long time to be presentable for consumption, or safe, for that matter. Vanilla beans, the core of vanilla flavoring, are another food that takes a while.
Real vanilla, not that imitation junk – takes a lot of time because the vanilla plant requires a minimum of three years to mature before it even considers producing a vanilla bean. There is another major factor that renders this fact about the vanilla plant true as well. Its flowers are only open for pollination a single day after blooming, which does not help to speed things up, that’s for sure.
