Lobsters Were Once Common-Folk Food
Today we view lobster as something of a luxury, not something that is affordable for the common person. That was not always the case though. You can get a plate of lobster today for $60 bucks if you go to the right restaurant, I guess? You can also get all-you-can-eat lobster for as low as a few bucks in places like Vegas.
During colonial times, crustaceans like crabs and lobsters were widely fished and, thus, even more widely available. Something so common cannot be associated with that of the status of wealth. It is quite funny how things change over time and value gets associated with things based on economic principles like supply and demand.
