The Time Molasses Caused A Flood
The connotation of a flood does not often evoke food or even anything remotely close to it. But this food was special and included one surprising element – molasses. That sticky, gooey, and downright sweet goodness caused a flood in 1919.
The Great Molasses flood of 1919 happened when a storage tank with more than two million gallons of molasses inside exploded. Sounds fun, right? The city of Boston is said to have suffered damaged and crushed buildings from the explosion – along with streets flooded with molasses. Can you imagine the clean up after such an event? Sounds downright sticky and messy.
