For those of you who don’t live in snowy areas, black ice is a very thin layer of ice that sits atop pavement and sidewalks. The layer of ice is incredibly dangerous due to its slipperiness. Your car can easily slide forward, even after slamming on the brakes. As for pedestrians, black ice can turn you into a break dancer as you struggle to get back onto your feet.
In Finland, since there are more wintery months than warm ones, they probably have to deal with black ice a lot more often and for longer periods. And yes, black ice can be deadly if your car goes careening off the road and slams into a pole.
