#8: Prisoners (2013)
Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners is a masterpiece of dread. When a young girl disappears, Hugh Jackman’s desperate father takes justice into his own hands. Jake Gyllenhaal’s detective brings quiet intensity, while Paul Dano’s unnerving stillness deepens the unease. The film’s ending, that faint whistle in the dark (the “Tinker Bell” moment), leaves us frozen, listening for something that may never come.
