Lock your doors at all times
Whenever you step out of your vehicle, always the lock the doors. Yes, this includes when you pump gas. Turn the engine off, lock the doors (even if someone else is in there), and begin doing your business. There could be people in the area who want to break into your vehicle when you’re most vulnerable.
Thankfully, the OP did just that, even though she didn’t have a habit of doing it. While some random lady was chatting her up, her husband appeared out of nowhere and attempted to open the car door to snatch her child. The couple was caught later on for trying to do the same thing to another unsuspecting car owner.
