1955: To the point
Pointy bras, also known by their more official name, the Bullet Bra or the Chansonette bra, were very popular during the 1950s. For some reason, women decided to make their lingerie dangerously pointy, probably since part of the never-ending attempt of creating the perfect pin up girl silhouette had to do with lingerie. The fashion restrictions during the war time in the forties helped the pointy bra become as sensational and revolutionary as it was.
The aggressive cone shape of the bra was meant to provide women with the perfect silhouette, and as is the case with many bold fashion choices, this one gained momentum thanks to celebrities and pin up girls wearing it, followed by every woman around the U.S. The Bullet bras made a short comeback during the eighties when Madonna was caught wearing it, but it somehow dissolved again.
