Who’s Laughing Now?
The same word can have a different meaning depending on what part of the world or country you’re in. The same goes for word acronyms like “lol” and “kk.” In the U.S., if you sent someone “kk” in a message, you’d most likely mean “okay” or “agreed.” As it turns out, in other parts of the world, the acronym “kk” has a different meaning.
In Africa, the acronym “kk” means basically the same thing as “lol”, laugh-out-loud, using it to reply to something funny or a joke. As the visitor experienced from their friends in Africa, this culture shock provided them with a confusing experience. As does most language barriers, lol.
