Before becoming one of television’s most successful late-night hosts, David Letterman worked as a weatherman and pursued opportunities in California. During his journey west, he reportedly lived out of his 1973 Chevrolet pickup truck. His career changed after he became a joke writer for comedian Jimmie Walker, eventually leading to television success and Late Night with David Letterman (1982).
