Real Quote: “What we’ve got here is a failure to communicate.”
Okay, this is a minor misquote, and I blame the grammar sticklers for it. “What we have here” is more formal than “What we’ve got here,” but the line is coming from a prison warden. I don’t think they all have an English degree and care too much about grammar rules. Fittingly, failure to communicate is a big reason for so many of these misquotes.
